The best gift to Bollywood on its 100th year birthday - The Lunchbox

You look for love and only love in your entire lifetime through many ways, my dear ladies. Sometimes you dress up in a grand way to get noticed in the crowd and just to feel the attraction in those two eyes. Sometimes you read things you don’t like, so that you can get into a discussion with your man over the dinner table, so that he may find something fresh in the topic. And often you cook to get love, as if the door to his heart is locked near the stomach.

Well, Ila also did the same in “The Lunchbox”. To revive her marriage she decided to cook different dishes for her man and waited for him to come back home with a smile of satisfaction after having a delightful lunch sent to him through Mumbai’s famous dabbawallahs. However, the train of life stopped at a different station one day and the lunchbox reached the lonely Mr. Sajaan Fernandez. Still searching for love from her husband, Ila wanted to correct the mistake immediately. Her husband on the other hand was quite happy having the same cheap restaurant cooked alu gobi for lunch every day and did not even realise that his dabba had been switched with some other despite, having eaten Ila’s cooked food for years. However, Ila was not that unresponsive to exclusive fragrance which came from her husband’s clothes, and finally understood why he was not complaining about the same food every day.
Ladies, you look for someone to share your tiny details with, don’t you? You just cannot stop talking about things which are irrelevant to your man and manage to irritate him or get him to yawn!! Oh ladies, please get matured now, men also get tired at the end of the day, after the busy schedule, so they are not supposed to have time for your “stupid” likings. However, Mr. Sajaan had time, probably because time was not demanding him anymore. So he got time to write letters, oh yes, LETTERS and not send Ila emails, as well as share in the details of her life through letters only. He got worried when someone resembling Ila committed suicide and waited eagerly, holding his breath, for the lunchbox to arrive at the right time. At the dusk of his life, he wished to go back to those moments where he could have spent some more time gazing at his wife for hours, which he hadn’t as he was busy in running the wheel of reality. But love played magic and knocked at his heart once more. Though old age had interrupted his dream for some time, it did not take much time for him to realise that a woman’s love for a man is independent of his grey beard and hair. And soon he ventured on a voyage of emotions, once again.

“The Lunchbox” in its every nook and corner spreads the subtlety of emotions. It reminds us the short stories written by Tagore or O’ Henry where the readers are left to imagine the conclusion, if there is one at all. It makes one believe that there is someone who is eagerly waiting to hear from one despite their busy schedules. It firms one’s faith that even if one is ready to cruise on a lonesome expedition; one will find a hand to hold. So begin the journey ladies, life is waiting.
